MGM, the hospitality giant, has selected VDA’s Italian technology for its newly opened Resort in Cotai (Macao)
Pordenone, 20th June 2018
The hospitality giant MGM has chosen VDA’s Italian technology for its room control of the 1400 suites in their newly opened Resort in Cotai (Macao).
The luxurious Smart Rooms can be entirely managed by the guest through a smartphone, which allows the control of all the functions within the room in a simple and intuitive way. It includes the control of lighting scenarios, curtains, temperature, the do not disturb and make up room functions, the doorbell, the TV, and audio control in the bathroom, as well as allowing internal and external phone calls.
The structure, costing 3.4 billion dollars, is one of the most advanced hotels in the world and certainly the first in the world to have adopted this innovative VDA technology based on IoT architecture, with wireless communication between the various devices installed, and the panels in VITRUM design.
Thanks to VDA technology, all the systems have been simplified. The electrical boards have been reduced in size, the configuration and testing processes sped up, all thanks to the cloud software that has guided all the local system integrator technicians each step of the way.
VDA S.p.A. has always been looking for innovative technological projects, and has established itself as an international player in the Smart Building sector. “The full success of the MGM Cotai project marks the new frontier reached by VDA in terms of simplicity of installation and use, but above all for the scaling up of its business”, – said Alberto Vuan, VDA founder. “The IOT product development and the evolution of the VDA Cloud platform have laid the foundations for a new era in the delivery of intelligence and power inside buildings, making it easy to use for both installers and hotel guests”.
VDA succeeded in securing the contract with MGM in 2015, and this was to provide all the technology based on their new product platform, with Vitrum, the elegantly designed glass switch, entirely produced in Italy. To control the 1,400 rooms, nearly 17,000 wireless components with Vitrum design based on IoT architecture were delivered, saving on wiring and installation, where all components are connected to the normal 230V cabling and without the need for any special system. The solution provided an APP specifically developed for installers which made it possible to reduce training time to a few minutes, and to enable the management in parallel of all configurations and commissioning activities for the 1,400 rooms. A second APP was developed for hotel guests, who find a smartphone in their rooms instead of the traditional telephone.
“We are really satisfied with the result. The success of this unique project confirms the VDA group’s capacity to innovate and its propensity to internationalise. VDA’s international presence in the UK, Middle East and Asian markets, as well as its leadership position in Italy, offer important growth opportunities to our group, now that the technological investments started a few years ago have been completed. The in-house design team is one of the company’s historical strengths.” – said Giovanni Gambin, VDA Group CEO.
